It’s quite difficult to find places that open for breakfast during Ramadan but Gourmet House at the Kempinski opens from 7am so that’s where we chose to go this morning.
It’s quite a small cafe but decorated really nicely with goods to take away such as camel milk chocolates and loose leaf teas on display. One wall is taken up by the counter with numerous breads, cakes and desserts to drool over – they do all look beautiful.
An all day menu is offered featuring salads, burgers ( a camel burger is their signature dish) , sandwiches, pizzas and soups – the breakfast menu is very limited so we opted for the breakfast ‘ eggsperience’. Priced at 50QR each it’s great value for money featuring coddled eggs with salmon, bresaola or spinach, a bread roll and, a bit randomly, a scone with jam and fresh cream, you also get tea/coffee.
Our food arrived quickly and was lovely and hot. The eggs were still slightly runny and were a perfect match for the salty salmon, my multi grain bread roll was crusty and really fresh. The scone was one of the best I’ve tasted but would have benefited from a little bit more cream and jam.
The meal was very filling and we had no room for anything else though we thought it’d be rude not to pick up a donut for later! We will definitely go back here for breakfast and lunches as the food was good and tasty. It’s also good to know between 7-9pm all bakery items are half price too.
