Shenzhen: November 2021

I’m pretty disappointed at this months round up! There’s definitely been a decrease in the places we’ve been to this month – a combination of having sinusitis, lack of inspiration and laziness I think. Anyway, here’s a shorter summary…

L’ Avenue – One Avenue

I think One Avenue is a pretty good place to eat and drink. I have mentioned Thai Rice Bowl before but this time we decided to head to L’Avenue a new restaurant near Green Table. There is no getting away from the fact that this place is a pricer option, but the higher pricing is reflected in the quality of the ingredients. We chose the sardines to start, it was nice to have something not usually found on menus here. I had the gnocchi for my main course and it was delicious, very light and the garlic cream sauce was rich but not too heavy. The peas were amazing, very fresh and full of sweetness. Greg had the salmon which was cooked perfectly with a tangy sauce bursting with freshness. I’d definitely recommend eating here for a splurge meal or just when you want to try something different.

Pizza Marzano- MixC

When you’re hungover and craving carbs this is my number one spot. The pesto penne is so tasty, plus we had creamy mushroom farfalle and a margarita pizza! Fueled up we went for a lovely long walk around Talent Park which is literally over the road.

Bionic, Nantou

Nantou Ancient Village has been on our bucket list for ages, and last weekend we finally got there. Before wandering around we went to Bionic for lunch. Unable to choose from the beers on offer we decided to share a flight which turned out to be a good decision, served with snacks we got a taste of 5 beers / ciders. My favorite was Endless Summer, a refreshing pear cider, Greg loved the Crickside Kolsch. For food we ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap which was spicy with a lovely crunch and the veggie burger which is one of the best I’ve had here. The village itself is pretty cute, it reminded me a little bit of Dapeng Fortress and the long, narrow alleys in Chengdu.

Helianthus, Futian

Again, a place we’ve been to before, but for us it’s the best pizza in the city. Greg went for the margarita again and I had the four cheese. Of course we had to have the gelato for dessert! This time we went to Bijishan Park to walk off our lunch which is about 20 minutes away.

Braceria Pugliese, Shuiwei

Staying local we are lucky to have this little Italian on our doorstep. A quick visit this time with mains of pizza and four cheese pasta. Consistently good food and service makes this the perfect spot for dinner!

Brunchat, OCT Harbour

Fancying something sweet we stopped here after a walk around OCT Harbour. I had the salted caramel crepe with vanilla ice cream which was ok, nothing amazing. Greg went with the chocolate and banana which he said was really good.

Having written this it’s clear just how much pizza and pasta we’ve eaten this month! Overall for us the best pizza was at Helianthus and my favorite pasta dish was the pesto penne at Pizza Marzano.
