This was our second visit to Yum Yum and this time we brought friends who were over from the UK,  we had an excellent meal here previously on New Years Eve and you get a great view of the city. To be fair the hotel looks quite unassuming from the outside (and parking nearby can be a nightmare so its probably better to get a taxi) but once you step inside the boutique hotel you enter an oasis of Arabic peace and calm, it’s lovely. The restaurant is situated up on one of the higher floors of the hotel and is light and spacious. Its key features are the huge sliding patio doors which offer a sweeping view of the city past the Souk, along the Corniche and over to West Bay and the Pearl, I definitely recommend that you ask for a seat by the window to take advantage of the view.  The menu is not extensive but it’s very reasonably priced and there is a good variety of dishes to suit all tastes. We started with beetroot and labneh salad, potato and truffle soup, prawn tempura and lobster tartare. The soup was declared as ‘ one of the best I’ve ever had’.

For mains we opted for duck, steak, chicken and pigeon. Again the food was fantastic, very well presented, good portion size and tasted amazing. The hotel is dry but they offer a great range of juices and mocktails. We decided not to have dessert as the Souk is fairly close by so it is nice to go for a wander and walk off your meal then people watch over a coffee outside but the dessert menu looked very interesting.

Throughout our meal the service was excellent, the staff were very attentive and friendly. For a 3 course meal with water and a soft drink it will be approximately 180QR per person. I really can’t find fault in Yum Yum and I believe the some profits got to ROTA and other organisations – so while eating lovely food you are also contributing to charity. Looking forward to a return visit soon!
